All of the downloads on this page were compiled by me. There are three types of releases:
- Game extracts include music that was extracted from the game files. Extracts from the CD-ROM games don’t sound very good as the sound files were so compressed. Extracts from console games sound good.
- CD extracts include music that was extracted from the audio section of the game CD. They sound flawless.
- Library compilations include music that was downloaded from the production music libraries (think stock photo libraries but for music) that Brøderbund used for the games. As a result, the songs appear in full, whereas they were often excerpted for the games, and they have good to flawless sound quality, depending upon what library they came from.
Contents:
Carmen Sandiego Math Detective
Current release: 2.0
Release type: Library compilation (+3 game extracts)
Status: Completed. I’ve collected all of the BGM in its original form from the production libraries used by Brøderbund, except for the Power Plex BGM, which appears to be original; likewise the end credit music. One piece is actually a composite of three different pieces, so I’ve included the original of the most audible/recognizable one, as well as the composite from the game.

Carmen Sandiego Word Detective
Current release: 2.0
Release type: Library compilation (+4 game extracts)
Status: Completed as much as possible. I’ve collected all of the BGM in its original form from the production libraries used by Brøderbund, except for four pieces that couldn’t be identified. Those four pieces are included as extracted from the game files.

Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums
Current release: None
Release type: Game extracts
Status: Music files extracted but not compiled. I have to figure out what's what.
Download: Coming eventually
Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (1994)
Current release: 1.0
Release type: Library compilation
Status: Completed. Unlike later games, the music from this game is comprised of short excerpts of recordings not from production libraries, but rather from the library of Smithsonian-Folkway Records, so this collection pulls together the full version of each and every goddamn one. As a result, it runs to a sprawling 7 hours and 44 minutes, so I’ve organized it into seven CD-length batches, based roughly on continent and region.
Note: The sound quality is generally poor. Most of the recordings date from the 1950s – the most recent one is from 1975 – so while the sound files are HQ, the quality of the recordings themselves is pretty crap.

Where in the World Is
Carmen Sandiego? 3.0 (1996)
Current release: 3.1
Release type: Library compilation (+6 game extracts)
Status: Close to completed. I’ve collected 45 of the pieces of music used as BGM in the game, but so far haven’t found five of the countries (Argentina, Iceland, Nigeria, and the Philippines) nor the World Wiz Database BGM (which could even be original). Those five pieces, along with the opening theme, are included as extras in abridged, low-quality form as ripped from the game. The BGM from the USA video in the database is also included.

Carmen Sandiego Word Detective Play

Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? 3.0 (1997)
Current release: 2.0
Carmen Sandiego Word Detective Online Game
Release type: Library compilation (+1 CD extract)
Status: Completed as much as possible. I couldn’t locate four of the pieces of music used in the game, and it seems unlikely that I’ll be able to.
The opening theme song from season 2 of the TV show, included as an audio CD track, is also included here.
